Cracked Windshield
What is Windshield repair?
February 15, 2018

The car in front of you kicked up a rock, and you’ve now got a chipped windshield. Your first reaction is worrying about having it replaced. But, that may not be necessary.

Types of damage that can be repaired

If the chip or crack is less than the size of a quarter and is not in the driver’s line of vision (driver’s primary viewing area), the technicians at Lee & Cates can repair that for you in a short amount of time.

The repair process

The windshield repair is made by injecting a resin into the center of the chip. By applying pressure with a vacuum, the resin extends throughout the crack. Depending on the size, it may or may not be noticeable. However, in less than 30 minutes, your car will be safe and roadworthy, and you’ll be on your way.

Types of damage that cannot be repaired

If the windshield has been damaged in the driver’s primary viewing area, has crushed glass, or the damaging object penetrates the glass, the whole windshield will need to be replaced. Each state has specific guidelines that also need to be considered.

If you have a chip or crack on your windshield, schedule an appointment to have it repaired at our nearest location.
