  Hurricane Resistant Glass

In 1992, when Hurricane Andrew slammed into South Florida, the state government went into action to create new building codes that would impact Southern Florida and all of the coastal areas in the state. In the building industry, there has been much investment into research and development of all building products to meet the new codes as set forth by the Florida lawmakers.

These building codes require that any hurricane resistant glass and glazing can pass certain tests that measure the effects of impact and wind pressure.

The Hurricane Test Protocol addresses Large Missile Impact Test, Small Missile Impact Test where timber or metal impacts the glass at high speeds. In addition, Cyclic Pressure Loading Test may be used to test the glass to withstand various wind pressures.

Lee & Cates can supply systems that can be used in your home or office which meet the strict guidelines as set forth by the state and Dade County. While it has been many years since Northeast Florida has felt the impact of a major hurricane, we are definitely in the line of past hurricane tracks. If you are concerned about your existing home or you are remodeling or building new, let Lee & Cates Glass assess your needs and supply you with the most up-to-date glazing materials for protection against that major storm.
